Are any fellow builders having difficulty finding their “land legs?” I’m still swaying with the train….
katyasher asked: What's better than the best thing you can imagine happening on your way here?
Anonymous asked: What kinds of games are you playing on the train? Sing-alongs?
(This is Miranda, btw. I made a tumblr account just to ask you this!)

maryaustinspeaker asked: who have you met on the train?
From Minneapolis
Colin & I got on the train at about 11:30 last night. We brought the following things, in no particular order:
Whiskey (2), Wine (1), Prairie Vodka (1), Candied Almonds, Socks, Underwear & Tampons (for our fellow builders, who we learned had made a mad dash to the train in Chicago), Samosas from the basement coffee shop on Cedar (12), Ginger Beer, Scientific American, Chocolate, a...

kellyrakowski asked: Can you please take pictures of the mountains?! Please. More scenic pics! More train party pics!
Chicago meetup
If last night at Danny’s pub is any indication, this train ride is gonna be filled up with smart folks, great conversations, and nastyass dance moves. While brother Steve and I were giving classic Hnilicka realness, we were served a real beauty of a move: The Bryce Is Right. Rapid fire hands, hips, and feet and then a BIG limbo back bend. Total core workout.
Reminder to all you builders:...
Music for Trains
My friend Eric and the So Percussion guys worked on this whole project organized by the Vermont Performance Lab. A little dreamy music for your ride:

We’re busy packing and preparing for our departure from Ann Arbor, Michigan, early tomorrow morning. The cameras are being charged, the nut balls being baked, shoes being bagged and books being stuffed into every possible extra crevice. Until tomorrow..
Can’t wait!!!!

Morning!
Despite an aggressive snorer and sleeping only half horizontally, we are arriving in Chicago on time and pretty rested. Today, we want to go to the Lincoln Park orchid garden and the Threadless store and get bikinis at H&M. And of course the InCUBATE Bon voyage party at Danny’s. Now we’re off to find lockers at Union Station.
Country Roads, Take Me Home
The adventure begins! In a bit of a hurry, we departed DC at 4:05 and now are rolling thru the hills of West Virginia. We’ve called our mothers and are now hanging in the lounge car digging Into the newspaper. Greece, Arizona, the Gulf of Mexico, and the Dow. What a week - I’m looking forward to talking with other riders to get some other perspectives.

Tom Scharpling on taking Amtrak cross-country →
A few weeks ago Tom Scharpling, host of the hilarious Best Show on WFMU, took Amtrak from Los Angeles to New Jersey. He told the story of his journey on the April 13th episode of the show. He starts talking about it at 1:04.
